If I like what I see, I’m that girl who will literally stop you on your run and ask you where you got your mesh top and split shorts. I might have ugly-runner syndrome, but I care about what I’m wearing and I’m always looking for the cutest running apparel. The other day I wandered into the Memphis Lululemon store just to take a peek and came out with a pair of shorts and a steep Christmas list. I know you’re not suppose to do a long run in something that you haven’t tried before, but I had to put these bad boys to a 19-mile test and I came out with no regrets.
There ’s no denying that Lululemon makes some of the best looking workout wear, but since they are such a yoga focussed brand, I’ve never really worn their clothes for running. I’ve also experienced some issues with fit and sizing, but this time I had a little help.
My friend, Erica, is an avid runner who works at Lululemon and always looks good doing both. She immediately had me try on The Speed Short and my first reaction was “Woah! These are way too small!” She let me try the next size up, but we both agreed that they were too big. Erica had to coach me into accepting the first pair for the fitted shorts that they are and they grew on me from there (pun intended). My next challenge was picking out which color I wanted. Lululemon does not skimp you out of any options. I’m not bold enough to wear too many prints in my actual wardrobe, but it’s always fun to take fashion risks in my running clothes. I loved this fall butterfly pattern, but I ended up getting another reflective pair for when the days get shorter.
I left pretty pumped about these shorts and pranced around in them for the rest of the afternoon. They move well and are extremely light. Although it really isn’t much material, they come down and cover my buns so I really don’t feel too scandalous in them.
I usually wouldn’t wear something new on a long run, but with my 19-miler scheduled for the next day, I decided to put them to the true test. I put my keys in one of the two front pockets and a gel in the back zipper, which fit perfectly. My only real issue was that the first 10 miles were in the dark so no one could see how smokin’ hott I looked in my new shorts. Other than that, no complaints. My favorite part about them is that they don’t ride up… maybe because they don’t have anywhere to go. But there is nothing a runner appreciates more than to not have to be pulling and tugging while trying to keep on pace.
I later went online and found some things that I am eyeing for this upcoming fall. Looking through and reading about their products, I realized that Lululemon really does know it’s market of runners. They use only the best fabrics that focus on breathability and understand our obsessive need for pockets. So would I buy more Lululemon running apparel? Absolutely. Now that I know my size and understand the fit, I’m excited to try more styles!
