Soundtrack to my weekend– where I put song lyrics to my weekend to make it sound more interesting. This weekend was the Christmas party edition (sorry, no Christmas music).
Mark and I went to his company Christmas party on Friday night at the Memphis Botanical Gardens. We were by far the youngest besides the trainee’s, but those engineers can really throw down. They had a DJ, Karaoke, and sweet door prizes (someone won 2 plane tickets to anywhere in the US). We enjoyed the dessert table, open bar, and watching his coworkers “Wobble” (twice) and sing to Bonnie Rait. It was definitely not what I was expecting, but it was hilarious.
Mark and I had plans of going out after, but nothing beats going back to my sister and brother-in-law’s house to sit on the back porch in the middle of December. We opened some good bottles of wine and stayed up all night chatting.
Okay, that “song” was a stretch but oh my goodness this brunch. On Saturday morning, we went to a new place in East Memphis called Staks and it was ridiculously good. I usually never have trouble deciding on what I want at a breakfast place because the healthier options are limited, but they had everything from Birthday Cake Pancakes to this Smoked Salmon Omelette with just a tiny bit of goat cheese.
Alright fine, I know this song is actually called “Sexy Thing” but not why I picked it (wink). The miracle is the fact that I got Mark to run 3 miles with me! He pretty much hates running, but we compromised and went on the trails. It was the best way to spend my first run back after my marathon. But I did feel like a sexy thing in my new and reflective Lululemon Speed Shorts.
And here’s my weird grocery find of the week. My sister and I went to Fresh Market to pick up some antipasto appetizers for our friend’s Christmas game night/party and came across this “Buddah Hand.” Apparently it’s a fruit that’s used in cocktails or for it’s aroma. Too scary for me so no thank you.
Our friend made chili and we brought this and cannolis (no these things don’t go together, but we’re going to Italy this summer so I guess we’re excited). There is no confessions part I, but I must come clean and say that I ate a the large majority of this meat and cheese board. #sonotpaleo #zeroregrets
First game was Settlers of Catan. What ever happened to good old fashion Monopoly that simple folk like me can understand? Sort of kidding. It ended up being so fun that we played 2 three-hour sessions. I definitely felt like Shelton from The Big Bang Theory.
But sometimes you can. On Sunday morning, Mark and I took an early trip to Walmart to buy our angel tree gifts (yes, we waited to the last minute) and then I got to do one of my favorite things in the world- listen to Christmas music and wrap presents.
I’ve been going to this new studio called Elements Yoga Lounge in midtown and yesterday I realize how terrible I am at it. Below is my friend Rosie. She’s much better at it than me, but we’re both the obvious runners in every class marked by tight hips and hamstrings and jackup up IT bands. We were both gawking at this one lady in our class who was amazing.
Sunday afternoon calls for recipe testing. I made some crockpot Buffalo Ranch Chicken for my brother in law, but only had a bite because I was going to Mark’s parents for dinner. It was spot on and spicy just the way we like it. Excited to share it with you!
What was on your soundtrack to this weekend?
Do you like game nights? Have you ever played Settlers of Catan?
Do you practice yoga? And do you have any runner’s issues while doing it? I’m seriously so bad that I can barely sit with my legs crossed and child’s pose is uncomfortable.
